This is the new format used for Powerpoint presentations. I believe this format came in with MS Office 2007. It claims to have more options that .ppt, which is the old MS PowerPoint format.

Either open the file from PowerPoint and do a Save As... or right-click on the filename, choose "rename" and change the file extension from .pps to .ppt You will probably get a warning about changing the extension, but this won't be an issue for this file type. It will then open in PowerPoint for editing. Of course, I'm assuming you have the software, otherwise, don't bother.
