I am 4 weeks out (at this point) from Umbilical Hernia repair. 2 mesh screens. 1 Polypropylene and 1 Gore Tex. I have a ball of fluid which the Doctor told me would gradually dissolve over a period of 2 - 3 months. He acted as if this was a pretty standard time frame so I would think it would be for you, even though yours is a groin repair.

The hernia repair site must be kept clean and any sign of swelling or redness reported to the surgeon. Patients should also report a fever, and men should report any pain or swelling of the testicles. The surgeon may remove the outer sutures.

Hydrocele repair - series?

Normal anatomyDuring development, the scrotal cavity in boys is connected to the abdominal cavity via a structure called the processus vaginalis. The processus vaginalis usually closes at birth, or soon after.IndicationsWhen the processus vaginalis does not close, or closes after fluid from the abdomen has become trapped in the scrotal cavity, it is called a hydrocele. The canal (inguinal canal) between the abdominal cavity (peritoneum) and the scrotum remains open. Fluid from the peritoneum enters the canal and the scrotum, and causes swelling of the scrotum. In some cases, bowel can also pass through the processus vaginalis into the scrotum. This is called an inguinal hernia. If a hydrocele persists past the first six to 12 months of life, it should be surgically repaired. Inguinal hernia in infants is usually repaired within the first three months of life. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish a hydrocele from an inguinal hernia on exam.ProcedureWhile the baby is deep asleep and pain-free (general anesthesia), an incision is made just above the groin. The open canal between the abdominal cavity and scrotum (inguinal canal) is repaired, the fluid is removed from the scrotum, and the incision is closed.AftercareSurgery usually completely corrects the defect, and the long-term prognosis is quite excellent. Hydrocele repair is done on an outpatient basis and recovery is usually brief. Most children can return to normal activity within about four to seven days.Reviewed ByReview Date: 09/03/2010Linda J. Can hernia cause lungs to fill with fluid?

Yes, hernia can cause the lungs to fill with the fluid. Hernia is when the intra-abdominal contents of the upper abdomen protrude into the mediastinum or chest. If the contents are large enough, it can press on adjacent organs, i.e. heart and lungs, and create difficulties breathing or increasing activities.

What are the Symptoms of an abdominal hernia?

The first signs of Abdominal Hernia occur with a bulge often represented with swelling on the abdomen area where the hernia would possibly occur. In some cases the hernia in abdomen would be unrecognizable and at times could be asymptomatic. During daily activities such as lifting, coughing, exercise and other movements the abdomen would get a lot of pressure which would result in the contents pushed to the gap of the abdominal cavity which increase the size of the bulge. Impotence in males is also common with abdominal gernia and in females, painful intercourse is seen as a symptom of abdominal hernia. This will result in inflammation in the bulge area.
