How is inference used in sentences?

The use of inference is to suggest an event, or fact, or characteristic, without actually saying that it is so. For example, writing that someone has graying hair and requires a cane infers that he is old. Writing that someone enjoyed abusing animals and those who worked for him infers that he is cruel. To write that someone's business rival conveniently and mysteriously disappeared is a strong inference that the surviving competitor had something to do with the disappearance.
