people have one heart because only one heart is needed in the beginning. later in life though (like you said) we find that one isn't good enough, so we search for the other one. once we find our other heart, the heart that has beat in unison for both yours and the other person's life, we are complete. we no longer have that painful yearning like there is something missing. another heart is something you want, need and will get.
