Satan tempts us and we unfortunately listen to his lies.

Even when Adam and Eve were alive, Satan came as a serpent and tempted Eve to Sin and Lied to her by saying that its okay and she felt for it.

Same with us today, it sure is a blessing thought that we have Jesus as a living sacrifice to forgive us our sins!!! When ever We are about to do something we should listen to our conscience and Think What would Jesus do, and if Jesus wouldn't do it your best not either.

ANOTHER ANSWER:

We, first, need to know and understand WHAT SIN IS, to answer the question:

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth the Law: for SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW." (I John 3:4)

The "Law" that people "transgress" or "break" is the TEN COMMANDMENTS, as Paul reveals:

"Well then, am I suggesting that the Law of God is evil? Of course not! The Law is not sinful, but it was the Law THAT SHOWED ME MY SIN. I would never have known that COVETING is wrong if the Law had not said, "DO NOT COVET." (Rom.7:7 NLT New Living Translation)

And what Law commands against "coveting?" Of course... the TENTH COMMANDMENT.

So, "how is it that man sins?" He sins [breaks God's Commandments] because of HIS SELFISH, REBELLIOUS HUMAN NATURE! No one likes to be told "what to do"... whether it's God telling us through His Laws, or man's civil laws.

We grow up with the attitude of "Don't tell me what to do! This is MY LIFE, and I'll do what I want, when I want, and how I want."

Of course, real life doesn't let us do whatever we want to... but that's human nature: "Don't try to tell me what's best for me."

And that's how man sins. It's a spiritual awakening within the flesh that rebels against the Truth; that we have to abide by laws to exist. We're told that "we are the captains of our own destiny." Which is a lie... because life throws things at us that we have absolutely no control over.

Sin [the breaking of the law] is the result of a "false" HAUGHTY SPIRIT OF SUPERIORITY that rebels against any form of authority trying to rule over us. Our material, mortal, fleshly nature craves the things of the material world... and is oblivious to the spirit realm; that which our five physical senses can't detect, naturally.

Weymouth's New Testament calls our human nature, our natural, selfish carnal mindedness, "abandonment TO earthly things" -- as opposed to God's Divine Nature: which is the "abandonment OF earthly things" -- concentration on the heavenly.

"Abandonment to earthly things is a state of enmity [HOSTILITY] to God. Such a mind DOES NOT SUBMIT TO GOD'S LAW, and indeed CANNOT DO SO. And those whose hearts are absorbed in earthly things cannot please God." (Rom.8:7-8 WEY Weymouth's New Testament)

Humility, a gentle, loving, giving spirit... is the opposite of haughty, rebellious human nature. Humility requires a change of "mind and heart" within a person... and is a spirit with which God can work [as a Potter molds clay]. It's a spiritual attitude that is compliant with God's Laws.

"...I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at My Word." (Isa.66:2 NLT New Living Translation)

The advent of sin contributes to "character development," which is something that no one can just hand out to their children... or merely be given to themselves. Our character or "personality" is unique to each of us, depending upon the trials, hardships, good times and bad. that each of us has to deal with in the course of our lifetimes. Or FAIL to deal with, as the case may be... for there is both "good" character development as well as "bad" to be had, depending upon how each of us handles life's trials.

But, sin, the breaking of God's Laws, is the catalyst that supplies mankind with all of his woes: his sorrows, pain, suffering; false religions, wars, famines, pestilences and diseases. All of that horrifying, terrifying stuff that makes up this miserable, polluted sin-sick world we have created for ourselves, as a result of listening to, worshiping and obeying THE WRONG GOD throughout the generations of man.

For it was "that old Serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the WHOLE WORLD..." [Rev.12:9] who awoke that "spirit of disobedience" in the hearts of the first two people created [see Rom.5:19; II Cor.10:6; Eph.2:2 & 5:6; Col.3:6-7]. Two "adult children" who suddenly came into existence [much as we all do when we are born, with absolutely no knowledge of the life that we are about to experience for the first time]. Satan introduced these two "innocent" babes to their rebellious nature. He told them that "God wasn't telling them everything they needed to know." That "God couldn't be trusted." That "They could decide for themselves what good and bad." And that "They didn't need God to tell them what to do or how to do it... because THEY WERE THEIR OWN GODS!"

And so they DISOBEYED GOD. They SINNED. They BROKE GOD'S LAW. (thou shalt have no other gods before Me.)

That's how man sins. He "disobeys God's Commandments." Sin is "Disobedience." NOT sinning is "Obedience."

"You are My friends, if you DO WHAT I COMMAND YOU." (John 15:14 WEY)

"Thus I Command you to LOVE ONE ANOTHER." (verse 17)

And that's what God's Ten Commandments are: God's Laws of LOVE! Love and respect for God... and Love and Respect for one another.

But it's just too simple to be "believed" by our selfish carnal minded nature.

"Because that Abraham OBEYED MY VOICE, and kept My charge, MY COMMANDMENTS, My statutes, and MY LAWS." (Gen.26:5)
