Bauxite is strip mined, which removes all vegetation. However, MOST bauxite is mined where there ARE no rainforests. Largest source is Australia. Do some reading before making an assumption.

Its unsustainable because it destroys land forms at such a rate it is not given a chance to regenerate and it is taking the nutrients and minerals the soil need for re-emerging trees
