This is so because as Jesus said 'you cannot serve two masters...you cannot serve both God and mammon.' (that is, money and all it buys). Since Jesus has purchased believers with His own blood He has a right to all of them. Someone has said 'He is Lord of all or not Lord at all.' If a person has a love of money, then that person has a god other than the one true and living God. Apart from the fact that one is living and eternal and the other is a dead thing which will pass away - God will have no rivals.

What is the origin and meaning of money is the root of all evil?

The correct quote is 'The Love of Money is the root of all evil"(1 Timothy 6:10). Adding the 'Love" to the quote makes it self-explanatory. Our focus should be on God, not money. Money may be something we need for our everyday living, but God is the provider of all we have and are. Loving money more than God is an open door to evil of all kinds. It leads to a selfish, materialistic and unthankful persona.

What does the Bible say is the root of all evil?

Answer:In 1Timothy 6:10 we read "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (This reminds me of my mother-in-law trying to win the lottery for the past 3 years) So we see it's not money itself, but the love of money is the root of all evil. Why? Because it proports greediness and power. People have perverted justice, prostituted themselves, committed murder, betrayed others, and falsified the truth for the love of money. True Christians realize money is an important tool, however they do not get involved with that love for money.

Is love of love the root of all evil?

It is the greed for the money that is the root of all evil.

Is greed or desire the root of all evil?

Both greed and desire can be drivers of negative behavior, but they are not the sole root of all evil. Other factors such as ignorance, power imbalance, and lack of empathy can also contribute to evil actions. It's important to address the underlying causes and motivations that lead to harmful behaviors rather than attributing everything to greed or desire.

1 Timothy 6:10 - For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. [NKJV]

How many verses in the Bible are about money?

Money is mentioned 140 times in the King James Version of the Bible. Gold is mentioned 417 times and silver 320 times. If you include references to shekel or shekels, money-changers or usury, usurer, and related terms (wealth, riches, etc.) then it accounts for more references than heaven (582) or hell (54) combined.Crown Financial Ministries published the fact that the Bible contains 2,350 verses dealing with money and possessions.1 Timothy 6:10 - "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Note that the love of money is the root of all evil, not money in of itself.

Is money is the root of all evil an example of personification?

Not at all, many of the worlds misdeeds and evils have no connection to the greed for money. To add to the answer above the quote in the Bible says in the book of 1st Timmothy chapter 6 verse 10 "For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil" in this verse we can see that it is not "money" yet the love of money. To follow up on above bible quote - So one could say that love is also a root of evil.
