Two Senators from each State - this was done to give each State an equal say in governing the country. The States, after all, are the seats of government, believe it or not, and have restricted what the Federal government can and cannot do.
The Federal government these days gets around many of these restrictions by paying the States sooo much money, that they voluntarily agree to what the Federal government - especially the President - decide that THEY want for the people, not what the people want.
There are many Representatives - each State has so many of them per every so much number of people - this was done to give the people of the US an equal opportunity to affect the running of government.
