Rust is simply oxidized iron. It can be 'un-oxidized' and made back into iron or steel.

Rust is the primary ingredient in laser printer toner. A bit of black dye and plastic round it out. The dye gives it the black color, and the plastic melts and fuses the rust particles to the paper.

Rust (iron oxide) has been used as a natural red pigment. It can also darken some types of wood via a chemical reaction to a natural acid in the wood call tannic acid, can be an ingredient used to make thermite, a powder that burns so hot when lit that it can melt through steel, and has been commonly used in making magnetic recording tapes.

Can rust cause a car to age?

To answer this question precisely would necessitate me knowing what you mean by the word "age". If car A is 10 years old with no rust, but car B is 10 years old with rust, they are both 10 years old. The age of both cars is 10 years. Only time itself causes age. However, if you ask the question "Can rust cause my car to become no longer useful?" The answer to this is - yes. Rust eats away critical parts of the car so that it is no longer safe to use.

What happens when iron and oxygen combine to form rust?

Nothing spectacular happens-- this is a chemical change. The useful properties of iron are destroyed when it rusts, so much is usually done to prevent rusting -- i.e painting. other coatings that prevent rust. If you can keep the oxygen away from the iron, it will not rust.Isn't it that it makes iron oxide? or is rust really iron oxide?--different person
