There might be a picture of this under the hood. Alot of GM's have this. It is possible that the engine mount will have to be removed for this depending on what engine you have .
3.3L it is serpentine belt driven.
Well its really simple. the serpentine belt controls the alternator, a/c compresser, and the power steering pump. If i am not mistaken the water pump is ran by the timing belt.
serp. belt problemnot far, all of your power steering, alt., sometimes water pump are all ran off that belt. if the water pump is ran by that belt you will blow your engine in a matter of mins. i would not recommend driving until the belt is on
Check that the CKP Crankshaft position sender wasn't knocked out of alignment when you put on the belt. It is at the 10 o'clock position.
Depends on how you ran the belt. On a V belt, looking at the front of the motor, the water pump would be turning clockwise. If on the serpentine you ran under the water pumppully and are running on the back side of the belt as some do, then the pump would be turning counter clockwise and yes, running backwards.
I went to Auto Zone......they ran me off a copy of the belt diagram.....any place like that....Pep Boys, Auto Zone....they will run you off a copy of the diagram
On the 3.5 intrepid engine, the water pump is run by the timing "belt"- no timing chain on this motor. Not sure about the 3.3 motor. On the 3.3L the water pump is driven by the serpentine belt.
The Allure was the Canadian model. It ran from 05-08.
Yes the engine can run without the power steering belt, but would be very hard if not impossible to steer around a corner. Even if the belt were a serpentine belt driving the Power Steering Pump, Alternator, and Water Pump the car would continue to run until it overheated or ran out of enough electricity to run. However if the engine was an OHC engine and the Cam belt breaks it will stop running.
First and formost, make sure you draw you a outline of where and how the belt goes around and what pulleys. Loosen the belt tensioner, remove the old one and replace with a new one making sure each pulley is ran exactly right. Tighten up the tensioner. Run the engine a bit and re-tension the belt. either the timing belt broke or it ran out of oil
rather than disconnecting it try having a new key cut, if the resistor in the key wears out it can cause these problems. You can check with a dealership or locksmith for prices, I know my 1995 LeSabre ran me $35.00 and was much less labor intensive than bypassing the security system. However if you still wish to bypass the security system you can check out this website. http://vats.likeabigdog.com Good Luck!!
