In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Sora was put to sleep by Namine to regain the memories he had lost because of her. She was forced by the Organization to re-write his memories to fit their plans, but Sora saved Namine from their control. She put him to sleep by putting him in a capsule, along with Donald and Goofy, to erase their memories of ever meeting her or being in Castle Oblivion so he could regain his old ones she re-wrote. He cannot wake up until he gets all of them.
Roxas reawakens Sora by returning to him. Sora regains his memories from Roxas, since they had been in Roxas while Sora had been asleep.
Since Sora was 14 in KH1, and according to the story, he had been asleep for a year, it is only logical to assume that he was 15 when he woke up.
It's a sequel to the first KH and explains why Sora and Co. are asleep in the beginning of KH2.
Sora was not asleep at the end of Kingdom Hearts 1. He did not go to sleep until the end of Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories and awakes at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2.
These are obviously spoilers: Kairi forgets who Sora is because when Sora's memories were taken apart, everyone who knew him or was linked to him in some way forgot who he was, just as he forgot them. Then gradually as Namine put Sora's memories back together people started to remember him. He was asleep the whole time, so I only assume he would forget the people he knew considering his memories were scattered.
There is no "Sora" in Sora no Otoshimono, it means Heaven's Lost Property.
