The Senate and the House of Commons have nearly equal powers, in theory.

Both chambers must pass legislation in identical form in order to be presented to the Governor General for the Royal Assent. Like the House of Commons, the Senate can pass, amend, or defeat bills. If the Senate defeats a bill, like in the House of Commons, it cannot be proceeded with further (i.e., the Senate has an absolute veto over bills).

How is senate and house of commons are almost similar?

If you are talking about the house of commons in England. First of all, congress in the US is split into 2 seperate groups, the house of representatives (amount of reps. per state determined by population) and the senate (same amount of reps. per state, 2 each) the parliament on the other hand is separated into the house of lords (the equivalent of the senate) and the house of commons (equivalent to the house of reps.) so the similarity are very few, the senate is the "upper house" and the house of commons is a "lower house". the only similarity is that they both run the government.

How does the structure of the Senate represent Canadians in a different way than the House of Commons?

The Senate of Canada is a chamber of "sober second thought". Members of the Senate are appointed by the Governor General (the Queen's representative) on the advice of the prime minister, whereas members of the House of Commons are elected during each general election. The Senate has the exact same powers as the House of Commons, with these exceptions:As the Government of Canada is not responsible to the Senate, the defeat by senators of a budget or a key piece of the Government's agenda does not force the resignation of the Government or a general election.Money bills may not be proposed in the Senate. (Note:The Senate is free to defeat any budget or money bill, and to make any amendments it wishes, provided that those amendments would not need the Governor General's Recommendation, as these can only be received at the request of a minister.)The Senate only has a suspensive veto of 180 days on constitutional amendments that seek the consent of the provinces. The House of Commons can pass a constitutional amendment without the consent of the Senate once this period has expired.

What is the difference between the Senate and the HouseofCommons?

In Australian Federal politics there are two houses of Parliament. First of all there is the House of commons or the house of representatives, this is where the Prime minister comes from, The people in the house of commons or the reps as they are also called represent the voters that voted for them in electorates all over Australia. Each electorate has approximately the same number of voters in it. The representatives that win in each of these electorates get together and vote for the prime minister. The senators in the senate or as it is also known, The Upper House, Is voted by every one in a given state. each state has a certain amount of senators. For any law or decision made in the lower house to become effective it must be ratified by the senate. If the senate can stop a bill from the upper house from coming int effect then a new election can be called for by either the government or the opposition.
