The energy released by an earthquake is measured using a seismometer. The amplitude of the seismic waves recorded by a seismometer are in-turn plugged into an equation that gives a value on the magnitude scale.
An instrument called seismometer measures the magnitude of seismic waves...!! However, to determine the total energy released by an earthquake requires combining the signals from multiple seismometers at different locations around the epicenter of the earthquake. This is because you have to know the location of the earthquake relative to the seismometer and this requires trianulation. You also have to have information about the local geology at the epicenter, since the type of rock and the local faults are clearly involved.

Magnitude.
The strength of an earthquake is measured using a seismic scale called the moment magnitude scale (Mw). It calculates the total energy released by an earthquake by measuring the amplitude of seismic waves. The scale is logarithmic, meaning that each whole number increase represents a tenfold increase in magnitude and roughly 31.6 times more energy released.
The measure of energy released by an earthquake depends on its magnitude. If its a high magnitude earthquake, there is a lot of energy. If there is a low magnitude, then there is little energy.
The Richter scale measures the magnitude of an earthquake.Logarithmic scale is the other measurement which is what you use when talking about how much a measurement of an earthquake goes up by.There are also but here is just a few.
Roughly 32 times more energy is released in a Magnitude 6 earthquake than in a Mag.5 quake.
magnitudea measure of the amount of the energy released by earthquake . earthquake is measure through Ricthter scale that measure the magnitude of seismic waves that it has
The magnitude of an earthquake is the amount of energy released at the source of the earthquake and is measured by a seismograph. Intensity is shaking strength of an earthquake at a particular location.
Magnitude scales are measurements of the amount of energy released by an earthquake. Perhaps the most famous is the Richter magnitude scale although this has since been replaced by the moment magnitude scale. Please see the related questions for more information.

This is known as the magnitude of the earthquake.

The magnitude of an earthquake is caluated to measure the amount of energy released during the earthquake.

The word Magnitude is used to described the amount of energy released when an Earthquake occurs
In terms of the maximum amount of energy released, an earthquake is stronger.
The difference is that intensity is the extent of damage released by an earthquake and is measured differently at different places depending on its distance from the epicenter while the magnitude is the amount of energy released by an earthquake and it has a fixed energy as it is released by an earthquake.
The energy released by an earthquake is measured using a seismometer. The amplitude of the seismic waves recorded by a seismometer are in-turn plugged into an equation that gives a value on the magnitude scale.
