It's spelt 'Bananarama'- Rama doesn't come into it, their name has nothing to do with Eastern inspiration of any sort! They were a 3-piece girl band formed in the early 1980s, who enjoyed popularity across Britain and parts of Europe throughout the decade. They aren't related to Greek mythology except for having released a cover version of the song 'Venus', which was released originally by the band Shocking Blue in 1969 and which Bananarama covered in May 1986. Both versions got to no.1 in the pop charts in several countries. Venus was the Goddess of Love, but to the Romans, not the Greeks- the song was meant to be a tribute to her. But this is the only connection that Bananarama have to Hellenistic mythology.

Their lead singer Siobhan Fahey left the band after marrying Dave Stewart of The Eurhythmics; they still exist, but as a duo now.
