The door lock rod in a 1990 wrangler, is assembled with a locking pin on each end of the rod. The locking pins connect the rod to the locking mechanism.
The power locks can only be engaged from the driver's door. You press down on the door lock on the driver's door and it will lock all the doors. Or you turn the key in the lock to the right in the door lock of the driver's door and it will lock all of the doors.
To take the drivers side lock out of a 1990 4runner you will first need to remove the door cover panel. Once the door cover panel is removed you will have access to the lock and can replace it.
I think this is a safety measure to keep you from locking your keys in the car. Try locking it with the key after the door is shut.
passanger side, near to the floor.
Remove the screws from the strap and door lever/lock assembly. Disconnect the linkages from the lock, and lever by flipping up the plastic retainers. Use panel removal tool, or wide thin tool to pry the panel from the door. How do you take off the lever that rolls the door windows up and down

My jeep wrangler keeps loking in gears
There are a number of reasons why your door might not lock. You could have something stuck in the door for example.
You can not. Normally if one gives a problem it is due to a door switch or lock. Purchase a Haynes manual and it has some good information.
you must check the inside latch to lock rods there arre two. one may be broken or bent out of shape you must take of door panel and take oout the 2 rods that are attached to your innner door handle. I did this to my 89 wrangler but im not sure if it is the same if you have power doors.
The key for the door must be put in the door and unlock it. On my Lincoln the driver side lock is messed up so i lock the passenger side door and use the key to unlock it and the alarm goes off. If it does not stop disconect the battery.
