How the curse was broken in fruits basket?

Tohru talks to Akito and they become friends. After that, Akito has changed a lot. Eventually, he decides to take back the curse, which was never meant to be a curse at all. Kyo asks Tohru if he can hug her, even though he'll transform. He hugs her, and he doesn't become a cat! Then, Yuki is taking to Machi, and here's what happened:

Yuki: It's something I definitely have to te-

The 12 Juunishi's long banquet has come to an end. For the first time ever, with lots of uncertanty and some hope, they are free at last.

Then he hugs her ( and doesn't transform) and.. kisses her. TT.TT I felt I was being cheated on.

Akito had lifted the curse. Since she is the reincarnation of God.

Well, Tohru sorta helps with it, by well, she sorta softens Akito (who is actually a woman). Akito looses her grip of the zodiac animals. She is also tired of living her life the way she was, and as a man. Then all the members of the Zodiac, just broke away and became free. Hope that answered your question.

Tohru played a part with the curse breaking, however it is not state exactly how this happened.She helped warm the heart of Akito and stuff, but Momiji broke away a while before and Kureno's broke away a long time ago, so there wasn't really a true way, but it all lead back to Akito and had to do with her. We do know that it had to do with Akitos heart.

Momiji's curse broke first, and Yuki's broke last.
