The themes of Split Cherry Tree are that:

1: Time's are always changing and the people along with it.

2: Nothing is impossible.

3: Try new things and always tell the truth.

Explanations of the themes:

1: Pa didnt have the same education as Dave is getting so they weren't learning the same things, expeially since most of the things, like germs, were never heard of on the first place.

2:Just becuase you've never heard of something or seen does not mean its not true, like Pa with the microscope. He didnt believe that there could be germs on his teeth but Professor Herbert showed him by taking a sample.

3:Trying new things, like when Pa came down to the school and actually liked what he learned there.Always tell the truth can also come into play because if Dave had lied to his Pa about what had happened and why he was late, then when Pa asked Professor Herbert, he would've found out he had lied, thus resulting in the Professor losing all respect towards Dave and probably a hard whipping from his Pa.
