How is the word peace defined in the Bible?

In a large majority of cases, the word "peace" in The Bible is the Hebrew word "shalom."

While the literal translation is "peace" - the meaning of shalom is far more than simply the absence of war. In the Hebrew understanding, shalom is being in harmony with God and all of God's creation. It's not easy to explain, but simply put, shalom is those moments we have when we look around and realize "this is as it should be." Shalom us "everything is as it should be." And that... is 'peace.'
