Theatre has been around since before the written word. Some even go so far as to say a kitten playing with yarn could be acting because the kitten is pretending the yarn is a mouse or some other small animal. It has helped build an imagination and gain confidence. It inspires and heals the soul. As well as all that, it is a form of entertainment. We use theatre every day. Interviewing for jobs, being nice to people who can annoy us, and so on. Theatre is very important. Without it, we would all be lost.

1. The story line is thought provoking.

2. It provides an education. A true story you might have never known.

3. An appreciation of the set design, it takes you back in time.

4. Lighting design - attracts and directs your attention. Also sets the mood.

5. Background music - sets the tone of the environment.

6. Performers make you feel each and every one of their emotions.

7. You get to appreciate the fine arts at a local theatre.

8. it's 3-dimensional. You get to live in the experience.

9. The ability to memorize all those lines and place oneself in the character's skin and portray it successfully on stage is truly amazing.

10. You won't like all the characters; they are humans with flaws but the performances are brilliant.

The above are reasons why you would attend the the theater. But there is another sense humans only can exhibit as to why theater is important to life. It's the sense of "self." I see "self" made up of layers of sensations and if one can penetrate all the layers, you have reached the maximum of emotions. I hesitate to use the word that defines that emotion, here. Coming out of the theater you feel very good about yourself and something you have to discuss with others. The feeling is much different than when you attend a movie where it's difficult to make a personal connection with a character.
