Tourette's Syndrome is a neurological disease, and is not the same as other diseases like colds and flu. Tourettes, like other tic disorders, is present from birth, but unlike most other neurological disorders it does not usually show symptoms until later in life, typically age 4-6. This means it is genetic, and you can't "catch" tics from someone.

The doctor will do some tests to make sure it isn't something else then they will ask questions and observe you. then if you have had the symptoms for longer than 6 months they will confirm it and give you your diagnosis.

It is hereditary so the only way you can get it is if someone in your family had the gene and you have it also.
