Virtualization is green technology as it allows the hardware nodes within datacentres to be more efficently utilised. The base line electricity and heating consumption of most servers/ blades and nodes is not greatly effected by whether it is running at a baseline state and 'ticking over' or more fully utilized with a 80 or 90% utilization rate.

By increasing the servers utilization rate, as well as smoothing out the peaks and troughs of activity you are able to save the costs that would be incurred through hosting multiple servers and consume less energy in the process. Furthermore you would need fewer machines and that would in turn require less energy to produce to achieve the same output.

When was green technology invented?

Actually, technology has always been green until it became bad for the evironment. The older technology doesn't use electricity or gass or oil. It just works on natural energy or on human/animal energy. (Like a windmill or a watermill.) But because non-green technology is much more efficient it rapidly replaced the green technology. Since a few years, green technology is making a come back.

How do you enable virtualization technology?

As the use of technology in many if not most work places becomes more complex, there is a greater need for network virtualization than most would have thought even five years ago. The ability to combine the available resources so that they can be used in manageable parts is necessary for many professionals to do their jobs. It therefore is incumbent on the IT professional to learn how to manage network virtualization. Virtualization is intended to make the management of technology more manageable no matter how complex the work technology being used is. To enable virtualization technology, on many if not most machines simply go to BIOS advances settings. Then look down through the screen and there will be an option that will say "Virtualization Technology" and you will be able to simply choose "enabled" or "disabled". In most instances enabling virtualization technology is that simple to maintain. Different systems may be slightly different, but the manuals for each system make solving the problem relatively simple. When looking in BIOS to enable virtual technology, some of the more common names for virtual technology can be VT, Vanderpool Technology, Virtualization Technology, VMX, or Virtual Machine Extensions. Sometimes finding the place to enable virtualization technology can be found on the Security screen of BIOS. The location may vary with each system. When users attempt to use software and see a message similar to "cannot find a valid peer process to connect to", this is usually an indication that the CPU virtual technology has not been enabled. In some instances a CPU will not support virtual technology without the addition of a support chip will need to be added. Often, when people encounter problems enabling virtualization technology it is because their systems will not support virtual technology. When in doubt, there is even a hardware assisted virtualization detection tool available from Microsoft. As more people do more and varied tasks on one network, network virtual technology will become even more prevalent and even more necessary for IT people to be able to manage it. In the long run it makes networks more versatile, and it should make the IT professional's job more manageable.

What is virtualization technology used for?

The main goal of virtualization technology is to provide a more efficient use of server resources. Often a server will be sitting there doing pretty much nothing, using less than 5% of resources, but still eating up full power. With virtualization you capture all that wasted resource by running numerous server instances on the same hardware so a single server could act like 15, 20 or more servers.
