Best Answer

A lead acid battery works by using different positive and negative plates with grids that sit together in electrolytes produced by diluted sulfuric acid. This converts the electric energy into potential chemical energy, and then back again.

A 12 voltlead acid battery is actually made up of six identical 2 volt cells. Each cell contains lead plates of different compositions sitting in dilute sulphuric acid. Lead dioxide plates (linked to the positive terminal of the battery) react with the acid to form lead sulphate giving up electrons (leaving the plate positive). The pure lead plates (linked to the negative terminal of the battery) react with the sulphate ions to also form lead sulphate. The pure lead plates therefore supply two positive charges and so are left negative. The passage of electons from the lead oxide plates to the pure lead plates is the current of electricity generated by the cell which can be used.

no lead acid batteries are not installed in factories only acid batteries are!!

How do you replenish acid in batteries?

On standard unsealed lead-acid batteries, just unscrew the caps and refill if needed. This cannot be done on sealed lead-acid or gel cell lead-acid batteries. Dry cell batteries don't contain acid.

What are lead-acid car batteries made from?

lead and acid

What do automobile batteries contain?

Common automobile batteries are Lead/acid (dilute sulphuric acid) batteries.

Is sulfur every used in batteries?

Lead-acid storage batteries contain sulfuric acid.

What compound do car batteries use?

Almost all car batteries are "lead acid" type batteries. These type of batteries use thin lead plates and are immersed in Sulfuric acid which acts as an electrolyte.

What is the difference between a lead acid wet battery and a lead acid dry battery?

one is dry one is wet... wet once are used for car batteries and dry lead acid batteries the once you put in your remote lets say. I think the dry lead acid battery is maintenance-free and sealed batteries, and the wet batteries is the traditional batteries which needs more maintenance.

Is lead acid batteries harmful?

Yes, they contain sulfuric acid.

What gas is leaked from sealed lead acid batteries?

Hydrogen is discharged during the charging process of lead acid batteries, sealed batteries are a misnomer, they are only sealed against liquid leakage.

What makes car batteries work?

The reaction of the acid and lead causes electrons to move creating a DC current.

Do they make lithium ion batteries for wheelchairs?

yes they do, they are standard on most current models because they are smaller and last longer than lead-acid batteries, not to mention lead-acid batteries are dangerous if tampered with.
