What were some long term results of the Battle of Chancellorsville?

How long did the Battle of Chancellorsville take?

This question has a "when" and a "where" making it two separate questions. I hesitate to try and "splite it" So I will answer each. The Battle of Chancellorsville was in May of 1863. Confederate General Lee launched a surprise attack on Union forces in eastern Virginia. The Chancellorsville lay between the Confederate capitol of Richmond and Washington DC. Lee won by driving the Union forces back across the Rappahannock River. It was a costley victory as Southern General Stonewall Jackson was killed in the conflict. Civil War historians regard the battle as the most masterfull battle by Lee in the War.

What caused Southern General Lee to remain on the defensive after the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863?

After General Lee's victory at Chancellorsville in 1863, he knew that the Army of the Potomac was still a powerful force. He did not know at that time that President Lincoln and General Halleck believed that the Union had to place its attention elsewhere than in Virginia. Not long after this, Lee started his plans to raid Pennsylvania.

What was the name of the confederate general who was commander of the Army of Northern Virginia after the Battle of Chancellorsville?

Robert E. Lee - he commanded that army, both before and after Chancellorsville, starting in the Peninsula Campaign, when he replaced the badly-wounded Joe Johnston, and ending with his surrender to U.S. Grant at Appomattox. Chancellorsville is regarded as his greatest victory - but really it was the triumph of the Lee-Jackson partnership. Jackson was killed at this battle, and neither Lee nor his army was ever the same again. Lee's health seems to have started to fail just at this time (he was not feeling well at the next battle, Gettysburg) and this may have been psychosomatic, as though he realized, on one level, that the glory days were over.
