-- Wrong. In the USA the date on the check is a comment field. It can even be blank. If it's incorrect, then you could generally just tell the tellor the date was incorrect. However, if the other account is closed, then it might come back on you to pay the bounced check fee. This is diffrent from a date written above the signature line stating the check is void after X days. Remember a check is in fact a contract, and thus, that line just stated terms. (lol...I wrote code for the Federal Reserve Banks, for checks...yup..I know US checks.). Now, the bank branch might have their own policies, but you can go to another bank, or just deposit it into the deposit atm....lol. If however, you like the person who wrote you the check, this is a horrible thing to do to someone, hold a check for a year, then go cash it because no one balances a checkbook anymore.
