This was how it was for both of my 2 golden hamsters they gave birth. Be sure not to disturb the mother and clean the cage before she gives birth. It is safe to touch the babies after 5 weeks.
What do you do once your hamster has babies?
You leave them alone. Until they're about two weeks old you aren't even supposed to look at the babies for too long, let alone touch them. If you touch or disturb the babies too much, or at all before two weeks, the mother hamster may eat them or neglect them until they die. After about two weeks you can hold and touch the babies but you have to be careful and make sure it's okay with the mom hamster. At about three to four weeks you are supposed to separate the hamsters from the mother and into their own cage. At six weeks you're supposed to separate them by sex. Some places say it's alright to start selling or giving away baby hamsters at four weeks while others say six. It's really up to the baby hamsters. If they are drinking water by themselves and eating by themselves they should be ready to go.
