How long can you leave your hamster alone in its cage?

While you can leave your hamster without food or water for a recommended amount of 3 or 4 days max, you can leave him alone for up to a week, if you provide the proper amount of food and water. It's best, though, if you can have someone take care of your hamster for you or at least check in on him once or twice.

also don't recommend it. Even though you can very easily load up on supplies, there is a chance something may go wrong, like if he falls of a ramp for example and needs vet care immediately. And if no one is there, he may die. Of if you get held up for an extra few days for whatever reason. However, this is just a precaution. The chances of anything like that happening are quite slim. They are still there, so do not take this lightly. If you come back to find something happened to him, it will be your own fault. But, once again, chances are very slim.

For food, give aproximately 5 times you normally give in a day. If you are feeding pellets, this is especially easy because he stores them anyway. If you have seeds, add a second bowl, shallow enough for him to eat out of comfortably, to put more in. Obvioulsy, do not leave any fruits, veggies and anything as it will need to be removed after only a few hours, or will go moldy.

For water, be sure to fill the bottle completely. You probably can estimate how long it takes for his one bottle to empty, and if it's more than 5 days, run out to a store to get him a new, much larger one, on top of his current one.

Before you leave, clean out the cage completely.

If you want to be safe, find someone to take him. Like someone suggested, you can try pet stores, shelters, neightbours, family members, and classifieds for private or public pet sitters. These can all be either free of expensive. Use your own judgment. It wouldn't be a good idea to give him to someone who never had experience with hamsters, for example.

I should add that unless your hamster has an accident that would result in death, it most certainly will not die. Even if you left the cage dirty, and didn't leave enough food, he would survive for 5 days. Water is essential, though, but after 5 days, at worst he will be severly dehydrated and lethargic, but not dead. So not TOO much to worry about, but prepare everything anyways

2-3 days at most. Your little friend needs fresh water everyday and replaced food about every other day. Because rodents "use the bathroom" all in their terrarium/cage, living on their own without cage matinance can result in not so great things. If leaving a hamster for a day or two past 2-3 days does not kill him/her, it is risky and unhealthy for you little friend.
