A:Scientists know that humans lived in caves (cavemen) hundreds of thousands of years ago, whereas the story of Adam and Eve is only set around six thousand years ago, as can be established by adding the generations ages of the biblical characters down through the ages. We also know that the cavemen were hunter-gatherers and knew nothing of farming, but the biblical Cain and Abel are portrayed as farmers. The ancient Hebrews who first told the stories of Adam and Eve, and their sons Cain and Abel, knew nothing of hunter-gatherer societies.

Strictly speaking, one may not say that the cavemen came before Adam and Eve, or vise versa, because cavemen really did exist, whereas Adam and Eve were simply characters in the biblical story. However, if a comparison is required, the cavemen lived hundreds of thousands of years earlier.

Did Adam and Eve or cavemen come first in Catholic belief?

A:Modern humans existed over two hundred thousand years ago, and are known to have occupied caves wherever suitable caves existed, as did the Neanderthal men who are so often associated as 'cave men'. The story of Adam and Eve places them around six thousand years ago. The Catholic Church has recognised the science of evolution and accepts that it can no longer deny that humans existed long before the time of Adam and Eve. The Church says that acceptance of the existence of humans before the time of Adam and Eve is permitted, as long as it is believed that Adam and Eve were the first people to have souls.

What is Dr Charles Stanley view on the theory of Adam not being the first human created that there was a race before him?

Dr. Charles Stanley, a prominent Christian minister, holds a traditional view that Adam was the first human created by God. He believes in the biblical account of Adam and Eve as the first humans, created in God's image. Dr. Stanley's teachings align with a literal interpretation of the creation story in the book of Genesis.
