to stay at peace and not fight
Prime Minister Winston Churchill allegedly bribed Spain to stay out of World War 2. Churchill supposedly authorized a Spanish banker to arrange for millions of pounds in payment to Spanish generals in exchange for them to persuade Franco to stay out of the war.
Churchill said the only thing that really worried him during the Second World War was the Battle of The Atlantic, in which German U-boats came very close to strangling Britain's lifeline from North America, which would have deprived Britain of the weapons, supplies, and food needed to stay in the war.

No. Churchill did not become Prime Minister until the war had been going on eight or nine months. Churchill's resolute, steadfast leadership perhaps did cause Britain to stay in the fight, when a lesser man might have advised making some sort of peace with Hitler. From June 1940, until June 1941 only Britain and her Commonwealth nations remained at war with Germany.

All that I know is that many people, including Winston Churchill, said they were extremely grateful for everything they did in Britain, as they effectively helped them win the war. After all, they can't have been treated too badly in Britain, as so many chose to stay there after the war!
