There are 66 books of The Bible, they were written by 40 men. They were written over a period of just over 1600 years that started around 1513 BCE beginning with Genesis (Moses) to the books of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John (written in 98 CE by the Apostle John).
The general concept is that the Bible was written in steps, or stages. First, there would be the an "oral tradition" stage where stories are passed from one group to another and repeated in group settings, establishing a community memory of an event, belief, or person. Second, some person or group would take it upon themselves to collect and write down these sayings and stories. Finally, the written record would be edited and connected. (Stages two and three can be combined, of course).
