In the 1860s, most of the world's population continued to be limited in travel-times to the traditional pace of foot-travel, travel by horse or mule (whether being riddenÊor through the pulling of a wagon of some kind), or travel by water on paddledÊor sailing boats. Increasingly, however, the use of diversely-powered tracked transportation (trains) was being utilized in some parts of the world.
