On 13sep1759, a force of 4000 British regulars under Gen James Wolfe walloped the French troops defending Montreal commanded by the Marquis de Montcalm.
Montreal had been under siege by the British for over 2 months, but Wolfe's scouts found a concealed path up from the river bank, and Wolfe secretly landed his troops during the night of 12sep.
He completely surprised the French defenders the next morning. The ensuing battle, called the Battle of the Plains of Abraham lasted only about ½ hr ...
the fighting was fast and bloody. Both Montcalm and Wolfe were killed in the action.
Montreal finally fell the next year and a final British victory.
