Provided you do your job and equalise the water parameters properly there should be no problems and the fish should settle in quite rapidly. I would expect a new goldfish to settle down and eat in the morning after an overnight settling in period.

Goldfish can live a very long time provided that you take proper care of them. One goldfish needs a 20 gallon aquarium with a filter on it's own, and then it's another 10 gallons for every additional goldfish you want to add (so 3 goldfish means at minimum a 40 gallon aquarium).Along with regular weekly maintenance that includes changing at least 50% of the water, goldfish can live for a very long time.
