While there are a few talented people who are able to act without training, generally it is best to take training from an established acting institution who specialize in techniques such as Strasberg, Meisner, Chekov or Stanislavski. Most good professional actors continue their studies even while working as many feel they stay on top of their game. So there is no upper limit to the time you can spend training.
OK so here's what i know about acting and going to school. I don't think you have to go to school very long to be an actress but i think childhood experiences help alot with getting in to school and becoming a great actress. the best schools ( if you want to know) are in New York, California and maybe Boston.
