Your body isn't properly equipped to deal with Abscesses. It does get rid of it eventually, but in the usual circumstances the Abscess will get to the point where it either just hurts too much or it will begin to spread.

The golden rule is that if you have an Abscess you should get to the dentist.

How can you tell if a tooth has gone bad under a crown that has a root canal?

If a tooth has a root canal filling you will not be able to know because the main factors of a tooth that has gone bad is sensitive to hot and cold or tender when putting any pressure on the tooth but if it has a root canal it is slightly different because the nerve is removed so you cant feel it. The tooth if it has a root canal will always go dark as the tooth is dead but this does not mean it is bad. The main sign of a bad tooth that has had root canal is an abscess under the tooth so if you feel pain when lying down that is keeping you awake at night or when leaning forward it really hurts then you have an abscess and that tooth will most probably have to be re-root canalled by a specialist or extracted! :)

What is success rate of root canal on a tooth abscess?

Just like anything, it depends on the individual tooth. However, in general without any knowledge of your situation, the American Association of Endodontists would put the success rate of a root canal as high as 95%.

Does tooth pain require a root canal?

Not all tooth pain is treated with a root canal surgery, it depends on what is wrong with the tooth and how bad it is. Here are some causes of toothache and a possible treatment: 1) sensitive teeth. Not much can be done about this except for using special toothpaste. 2) Tooth decay. Treated by doing a filling. 3) Abscess. Often after the abscess has been treated with antibiotics it is necessary to root fill the tooth. 4. Sinuses. Sometimes a sinus problem or infection can cause referred pain in certain teeth. Treatment focuses on the sinuses then, not the teeth.

Is composite core build up of root canal treatment contraindicated immediately?

Yes, a buildup is contraindicted immediately after a Root Canal Treatment. Primarily you want to make sure that root canal treatment is asymptomatic before placing any permanent restorations on the tooth. If the dentist or endodontist needs to re-enter the tooth bec. the root canal continues to give problems (pain, formation of abscess) it would be easier to remove the temporary filling. Should leave the temp. filling for 2 weeks and then if asymptomatic then do composite Buildup.
