African life expectancy varies widely. The Swazi can only expect to live 32 years due to an HIV epidemic, making Swaziland the shortest lived country in the world. People from Libya can expect to live about 74 years, longer than people from D.C. or Mississippi. Saharan Africans live a lot longer than sub-Saharan Africans. This is because HIV percentages are the highest in Swaziland (26%), with South Africa right next to it. HIV is not that big of a deal in Northern Africa. Less than 1% of Saharan Africans have HIV. So the farther South you go in Africa, the more HIV infected people you'll find. Some African countries live to be under 40, some within the 40-50 range, some within the 60-70 range, and a few can even live above 70. The average African life expectancy is 50.6
