It depends on how big the tree is and what sort of wood.

If you watch the lumberjack axe races they can cut a 30-50cm tree trunk in half in a matter of minutes. That's using competition axes and soft, unknotted wood though.

But a team of axemen used to take about a week to cut just the gob out of a big Sequoia!
