How long does it decompose depend on the specific chemical makeup of the plastic. Some plastics have weaker chemical bonds and thus do not take as long to biodegrade. Some plastics, however, have bonds that are so strong that they would not break down easily even over long periods of time--in some cases, forever isn't an exaggeration.
most plastics break down faster in the presence of sunlight with the exception of some UV resistant plastics if you left it in the sun i would venture to guess that it would last about 7 years but if it was burred(in a the dirt) i would guess well over 100 years but if it was in a land fill i think that some of the acids and chemicals created by the decay of organic materials (ex banana peals and the like) i think it may speed the proses i think but it raises the questions that after it is broken down is the chemicals that make up the plastic still there.... a fun story i once seen a plastic 5 gallon pail ant it was half under ground and half in the sun after about 3 years the in the sun part was very brittle ad crumbly you could crush it wit your figures but the burred part was still in new condition. i hope this helps but i am not a professional in plastics i base this on observation
It takes approxmatly 500 to 1000 years for plastic and aluminum to break down.
It takes approxmatly 500 to 1000 years for plastic and aluminum to break down.
Plastic takes a long time to break down.
60 years
An average of 350 years
It takes depends on the type of plastic, but no one is certain how long any type of plastic takes to break down. Many early plastic toys from the 60's are beginning to break down significantly. However, clear water bottles like Dasini and most other brands use PET. PET is a relatively modern plastic so there is little information on its degradation. In any case it takes about 1 week for a water bottle to break down with recycling it .
The bag itself will take centuries if not longer to break down as it is a layered metalized plastic material.
It is generally safe to reuse plastic bags until they turn cloudy and opaque, which is an indication that the material is starting to break down. They can be recycled where available facilities are found.
Plastic never decomposes. It will eventually break down into tiny fragments of plastic which can be eaten accidentally by insects, animals and birds.
The plastic on a laminated sheet will never break down. After many years, perhaps in sunlight, the plastic will break into smaller pieces. If the paper is exposed to moisture and warmth it should then biodegrade in a few months.
Most plastics break down more quickly when exposed to sunlight than when buried. The exact time will depend on the type of thickness of the plastic. Some plastics are being made now that breakdown in about 6 months, others may take 10 years or more.
it takes 20 years approximetly to break down.
