Will diatomaceous earth hurt you if taken?

As long as you are using the food grade version of diatomaceous earth, it will not hurt you. However do not take the pool grade version.

How effective is diatomaceous earth as a bed bugs killer?

No. Diatom dust does not kill bedbug eggs. Diatoms are broken pieces of calcium carbonate. If a small bed bug goes through it, it might cut off part of it. As long as an insect remains perfectly still in broken glass, it will not affect the insect. An egg is perfectly still.

How long does rubbing alcohol repel bed bugs! And best tips for using on bed to protect from bites and on skin too etc?

Rubbing alcohol will give you no protection from the bites of bed bugs. No preparation should be applied to your body to protect you from bed bugs. You have to kill the bed bugs by insecticide spray. You may have to repeat the spray after a week or two to kill the the newly born bed bugs from the eggs.

Can alcohol be used to kill mealy bugs on houseplants?

Yes it will but it's a long process and chances are you kill them all. It's better to spray them. Neem Oil or ask you nurserymen what to use.

Will bleach kill bed bug eggs?

Sure Bleach will kill them, if applied to them or a small amount of bleach in an enclosed space will kill the ones in that space. However the thing is, bed bugs feed on people so normal eating pesticides won't work. Alcohol in an enclosed space will work on any bugs. Soak a cotton ball with alcohol and let it kill the bugs, then you have a perfect non-squashed specimen. To get rid of bed bugs you'll need to get a matress bag, to trap them in, dry everything you can get in the dryer on hot for at least 10 min. best to dry bedding everyday.

What happens if you find the bed bugs bit you?

Well you will get extreme bumps that can be really big. It will also take very long to cure.

Can you kill bed bugs on your own?

Use FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth, which is NOT carcinogenic as people keep erroneously reporting. NON Food grade diatomaceous earth is crystalline, and is linked to an irreversible lung disease called silicosis. Food Grade diatomaceous earth is amorphous in structure, and is as harmful as breathing regular dust. If you have asthma it could irritate you to breath it just like any other dust would. Use a dust mask to apply if you have allergies or respiratory issues. Get the food grade diatomaceous earth with a puff applicator and put EVERYEHERE. You can order both online. Diatomaceous earth in food grade can also be purchased at feed stores. Apply thin layer, so they don't try to walk up walls around it. It kills bedbugs mechanically (slices through their shells) and does not lose effectiveness like insecticide does, but it takes time to work. It's also advisable to remove wall socket and light switch plates and puff diatomaceous earth in there. It's a good time to get rid of things you don't need, as bedbugs can tske up residence virtually anywhere. Triple bag trash and tape to seal, take immediately to the street for disposal. Buy Hot Shot ant and roach killer with Lambda-Cyhalothrin in it for the quick kill. It's less expensive than insecticides marked specifically for bedbugs. Although it isn't labeled for bedbugs specifically, it has been shown to kill them in research studies. Spray underside of box spring (remove fabric first), all around bed frame and under furniture, along baseboards, in closets, etc. Keep pets out of the room you are spraying until it is dry and aired out. Bed bugs usually start out affecting just one room. Don't sleep in another room, they will follow you. Make sure you have diatomaceous earth applied to the threshold of affected room and avoid taking things from room to room as much as possible. If you decide to keep your bed spray the mattress every few days with 96% alcohol for a week, getting into the seam tufts and edges. This kills bedbugs and their eggs on contact. Then vacuum your mattress, immediately dispose of vacuum bag in a sealed taped up plastic bag and take it to the street. Get a mattress and box spring cover with micromesh that is labeled to keep out dust mites or bedbugs, which zippers all the way around, and put box spring and mattress in them, fully encasing them both. Dont forget to get enough dust mite/bedbug covers for each of your pillows. Dust a layer of diatomaceous earth on pillows, in and in box spring and then on mattress before you bag them. I even put a fine layer on my sheets. It feels a lot like talc, it's very fine. I figure if they are going to come and to bite me then they can walk through it and die. If you clean up the diatomaceous earth reapply it. Bedbugs can live up to nearly two years without feeding, you will have to apply the diatomaceous earth that long to kill them off effectively. It is safer to use than anything else. It is used as a worming agent for animals and some people take it internally to rid themselves of parasites and to help with joint pain. There are directions online on how to make a bedbug trap utilizing dry ice, which gives off carbon dioxide, as your breath does, but I have not tried it. Sounds intriguing though. They are attracted by the carbon dioxide in your exhalations, so it would be nice to lure them away from your body that way. Dry ice has to be handled carefully, and since I have cats I have been warry of trying it. If you are being eaten alive at night put 10 drops of essential oil of Clove in 8 ounces of distiller water and spray your body before going to bed (avoiding eyes). Spray your sheets too if you don't have animals sleeping in bed with you. Bedbugs seem to be repelled by that. Bites when way down after using it, from 20 a night to maybe one or none. Be careful using essential oils around pets, particularly cats. They have very sensitive livers. Look up any essential oils you intend to use first to check if they are safe around your pets. The clove oil diluted and sprayed on my skin has not seemed to adversely affect the cats. Cedar oil is supposed to kill bedbugs and cinnamon oil is supposed to be a good repellant. I used clove oil as I had it on hand. I would use the diatomaceous earth even if you decide to get s professional exterminator, if he or she doesn't apply it. It will keep working after the residual effects of insecticide have worn off. Good luck and don't go crazy over it. I know it's creepy, but try to just be very methodical in your approach and it should eventually eradicate them all.

What type of soil has had a long time to form?

diatomacious earth. [NO] 2. [Diatomaceous earth is the remains of a marine organism (diatoms) that have accumulated on the sea floor and been subsequently raised.] The soil that has the longest time to form is the top-most layer. It started out as bedrock, and by processes of weathering and improvement (addition of humus etc) became black soil.
