It's 2-5, actually.
Day 1: You drop it in the mailbox, and if it's before pick up time by the mail truck it'll speed it up a bit.
Mail truck drops it off at the sorting station.
Mail is sorted.
Day 2: Mail is assigned based on postal code.
Mail is sent to appropriate city's sorting station.
Mail is batched up by routes.
Day 3: Mail is picked up by trucks assigned to those routes, and dropped off at the green pickup boxes for carriers.
Carrier picks up mail and delivers it.
This is the best-case scenario, and does not take into account weekends and holidays, which will add to the time. Dropping it off at the post office doesn't take much time off of the delivery, either. www.canadapost.ca
