The banana is not a tree but a herb. The stem that bears fruit will die out and be replaced by suckers that will bear the next lot of fruit.

avocado is a fruit, made by Nature. You can serve it in many ways, like in salads, as side dish, or as guacamole, which is a mix of smashed avocado, a touch of lime and vegetables, most likely tomato, onion, cilantro, and chile. As long as is served fresh, it can be used with a great variety of vegetables, as it can also be used in sandwiches, tacos, main dishes and soups.
The Canadian climate is not hospitable to the avocado tree, however, you can still grow an avocado tree in Canada, as long as it is in a greenhouse or other warmed enclosure. You could have a small, potted tree in your living room.

"Avocado trees, as with all living organisms, have a life span during which the tree develops into maturity, bears fruit for a period of years, and then declines until it finally dies. A few individual seedling avocado trees growing in dooryards are estimated to be about 100 years old. The first commercial Fuerte grove was planted in 1913 and is now 95 years old." As far as bearing fruit (assuming the farmers used graphing techniques)...."Markeson assumed in his economic study of the Florida avocado industry "That an avocado tree comes into commercial production in 5 years and has a life span of 35 years."" excerpts from "California Avocado Society 1970-71 Yearbook 54: 33-36"
