First of all she would have to formally file for separation from religious orders. It is a somewhat simpler process than with a Priest, as a Nun is not considered a clergyperson and cannot independtly perform a Mass, for example. getting de-commissioned would not involve sacramental norms ( unlike Holy Orders applied to priesthood)- which is blessed by a Bishop. This does not mean to trivialize the release process, as there are all sorts of questions which would be posed by superiors- based on psychological conflicts-the needs of the community ( a seasoned teacher or nurse would not be permitted to ( drop jobs) at the drop of a hat- and so on. it does happen, and with increased frequency- separation or discharge would be easier with a postulant, which is analogous to a seminarian, who has not been given the Final Vows. Obviously, any religious articles- habits, etc. would have to be returned to the order.
