Make a small box out of screen material, about 12" x 12". Leave one side open, this side will go down on the grass outside. The screen will keep your friend from getting out. Make sure there is plenty of grass, lots of different leaves and a couple of sticks inside for him. Stand the stick up so he can climb to the top if he wants to. They love clover, so plant some inside the area. Make sure you pick a place where he can get rain, get out of the sun when he wants to, and get into sun when he wants to. Don't bring him indoors. Let him hibernate. In the spring, he will eat and build the cocoon. Then you will see him become a moth or butterfly depending on what Caterpillar you have. After you see it is out of the cocoon, please let it go so it can live it's life with it's friends out in the gardens.
Actually, if the conditions are right, it will. The problem is, what if you lose power and the fridge goes off? What if there is a problem with the fridge and it seems to be working on the outside, but is actually not cold enough on the inside, or becomes dangerously cold? Your turtle could either awaken from its hibernation locked in a fridge with no food or escape, or would die from freezing. All and all, do not put your turtle in a fridge. The turtle gets no physical benefits from hibernation, and it is far too risky.

Refrigerator Light OperationThe light inside a fridge is an "appliance" bulb. It is controlled by a spring loaded switch, usually mounted in the door frame across the top of the door opening. The switch is on when the door is open which allows the spring to push a "plunger" out, thus closing the switch and allowing electricity to flow to the bulb filament. When the door is closed, the door pushes the plunger IN, opening the switch, and thus cutting off the flow of electricity to the bulb.
