There are certain things you can do to speed up this process.
There are certain factors that will naturally increase or decrease the speed also. Such as cold weather making it take longer for them to rot. Hot weather making them rot faster. Worms and dampness combined with warmth making it much faster.
Never add sticks or branches to compost as they do not rot and make it impossible to shift your compost once the leaves and grass have decomposed.
Obviously wood does rot over time but it takes much much much longer...
