A single adult tapeworm can be eliminated with one application of appropriate antiparasiticide from your veterinarian - the stuff on sale in pet supply stores and department stores won't kill a tapeworm.

However, the bigger problem will be the immature larvae, which are typically not affected by the antiparasiticide - you will probably have to repeat the medication 2-3 weeks after the first dose to eliminate the second round of adult tapeworms.

Also, you need to figure out where the tapeworm came from. One of the most common species of tapeworm in dogs comes from ingesting fleas infected with the larval stage, so you will need to address the flea infestation problem before you can be assured your dog won't get tapeworms again.

What causes a dogs backbone to show?

Starvation. If the dog is getting enough to eat, then the next thing that springs to my mind is a tapeworm. You can get medicine for that at a pet store. Tapeworm medicine is different than just "worm" medicine. So ask. After the simple answers come the not so simple answers like....cancer and other nasty stuff. If the simple stuff doesn't work, you'll need a vet. Sorry. I hope it all works out.

Will garlic kill a tapeworm?

There are some herbal remedies for pets but people should get prescribed medicine from a doctor. Although tapeworms are a nuisance, if infected, people can get malnourished and should be treated. It is easy to cure with the right medicine but trying to do it at home, could cause a delay in healing and probably wont work.

Does the Weight B Gone Tapeworm pill really work?

If the pill uses a real tapeworm, yes it will work, but it is not the healthiest way to lose weight. In the 19th Century women swallowed tapeworms on purpose, allowing them to eat all they wanted without gaining weight. However, unless the tapeworm is killed it will take all the nutrition and the host will slowly starve. According to what I just read, the FDA has recently banned the marketing of tapeworms in the US.

Why does medicine not last as long as its supposed to?

Sometimes medicines advertise that it lasts for 12 hours, and it really only works for an hour or two - why is this and can I do anything to make it work better? Other medicines say that you are only supposed to take them every 4-6 hours yet they only work for about an hour, if at all. How can I get medicine to work???

Is it safe for people to take medicine even though it make them feel like they are going to vomit?

If the medicine make you want to puke, it's better if you don't take that medicine, because that can means your body can't tolerate the medicine. Besides that, if you take the medicine, and after that you throw it up, it doesn't make any effect of medicine in your body, because the medicine isn't work yet.
