As the hair splits up the hair shaft it becomes more fragile on the ends and will break, thus make the appearance the hair is not growing. Hair grows 1/4" to 1/2" every thirty days, depending on your health, but it also depends on how long it has been since you have had a trim. Chemicals used on the hair and exposure to the sun also have an affect. The less frequent you receive a trim the longer it will take for the hair to grow back to the length it was. Conditioners and protein treatments will help with split ends but a trim is the only way to totally eliminate them, especially in severe cases. Split ends is a natural occurance, especially with longer hair.
