It takes a whole lot of years for soil to be completely formed from parent rock under natural conditions. The processes involved in soil formation are powered by different agents. The more powerful the agent responsible the faster the rate of weathering and disintegration of large rock masses into little fragments and smaller particle for soil generation. This means that if the rate of erosion is high, as in the case of mass-wasting, like rock fall, then it'll take shorter time for a large rock mass to charter into smaller soil grains.
