It depends on you education level, diocese/religious order, and age. Most dioceses in the U.S. will require the following: If you already have a B.A./B.S. Then it is generally 2 years of undergraduate philosophy, four years of graduate level theology and many diocese require a propaedeutic year and/or internship. If you do not have an undergraduate degree then it is generally four years of philosophy, four years of theology and possibly a propaedeutic and/or internship year. If you want to join a religious order, like the Jesuits, it can take as long as twelve years. A man who is older may have a shorter period at the discretion of his bishop or superior. So, it really depends on a myriad of factors and you should consult the vocations director of the diocese or religious order you are interested in to know exactly.

A study was completed in South Korea indicating that "religious people like Buddhist monks, Protestant pastors, Catholic priests and nuns live longest while media people are one of professions who live shortest among 11 professional groups.. However, a Catholic priest lives a supernatural life in celebrating celibate lifestyle for the sake of the Kingdom (Mt 19:12, ). Although a longer lifespan may or may not occur, the focus on this life is secondary; many priests are ready to give their life out of love for others, they have forsaken their own life, including the sacrament of marriage and longevity, to live in a type of matrimonial union with Him and for Him.

Why would life be chaste if I become Catholic and my spouse is not?

.Catholic AnswerWhile you are in RCIA, that is the class you need to take to convert to the Catholic Church, at that time, the priest will process your marriage. If you wish, your marriage may be either recognized by the Church, or more probably, they will conduct a Catholic marriage ceremony, you will need to speak to your priest about this.

If you want to become a Catholic and see a priest about converting into that religion would he think badly of you for past sins?

No, the Priest would not think badly of you. I am not sure what the rituals are called for becoming a Catholic, but, there is a learning process you must take and you also must study that religion. I suggest you do a little studying of your own about the Catholic religion before making this decision. Go onto: www.google.com Type in: Becoming a Catholic

Can a protestant divorcee married to a Catholic divorcee become a Catholic?

Anyone can become a Catholic. In the particular situation that you paint, you would need to speak with a priest to find out IF the marriage could be continued, in other words, if everyone involved could get annulments (statements that the first marriages were not valid) and then get married in the Catholic Church. Whether or not this is possible, it should take second place to where you are planning on spending eternity!

Should you take a communion from a lying pastor?

A priest's ability to consecrate and celebrate the Eucharist is provided to him in his priestly Faculties. This faculty is not impaired or removed simply because the priest is a sinner. In fact it would be a miracle if there were a Catholic Priest anywhere who was not a sinner. So there is nothing wrong, different, or missing in a communion service that is led by a priest who has sinned. You should be able to take communion from this priest in full confidence that it is properly consecrated. Should you take communion? Is a somewhat personal decision. The Catholic Church recommends that as long as the priest still has his faculty to celebrate mass, that you should feel comfortable participating in the mass and receiving communion.

.Catholic AnswerYes, of course you may join the RCIA. It usually starts, in most parishes in August and runs until the following Easter - approximately nine months. You need to speak with a priest, either call the office of your local Catholic Church or speak with the priest after Mass and tell him that you are interesting in joining the RCIA program.
