In the US, it takes a minimum of seven years of school after high school - three years to complete the undergraduate pre-requisite courses and another four years to complete vet school. However, most vet school applicants complete four years of undergraduate and have a Bachelor's degree. Also, if you want to specialize in equine medicine, you will have more job opportunities if you complete a one year equine medicine internship after vet school and possibly a three year equine medicine or equine surgery residency as well, plus taking the associated exam to be Board certified. In total, provided you are accepted on your first try for vet school (only approximately 33% of applicants are), it will take 7-12 years to become an equine vet.
It purely depends on how fast is the horse accepting it.
Question for you is: can you lift the feet, to scrape the dirt and crap from underneath it? If you can do that and the horse works with you there, you are not far from the point of supporting the hoof and trim it.
In the United States the minimum is seven years of college - three years of undergraduate college and four years of vet school. This varies by country, however.
All of them: Math, Calculus, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Social Studies. You must finish all of your Grade 12 classes and pass the exams with at least 70% to 75% to be able to enroll in the Pre-Vet program or Animal Sciences Pre-Vet program to start your way on becoming an equine vet.
This can vary from state to state but vet school is usually between 4 and 5 years and another 2 years to specialize in equine medicine. Its a long haul and expensive but once your done you get to work with animals.

It takes at least 7 years to become a veterinarian - at least three years of undergraduate (most successful vet school applicants have completed four or more years) then four years of vet school. Some equine vets will specialize or receive additional training specific to horses. An equine internship is one extra year, an equine residency is 3 years, a PhD related to equine medicine can take up to 7 years to complete.
A vet can technically treat any animal but they may choose to specialize in one species. An equine vet specializes in equines (horses, ponies and donkeys) but can treat other animals if they choose to. My equine vet has also treated our cows and goats mainly as a favor to me, and I know that he treats his own dogs unless they require specialist care
Any school of veterinary medicine will give you the basics towards becoming an equine veterinarian; if the school doesn't have a strong equine program there you can supplement your time in vet school with externships and experiences at other schools or at private equine facilities. Once you get out of vet school, the important thing is to work with a good established equine veterinarian to hone your technical skills.
