The answer to this question depends on a variety of factors including type of bike, equipment used (cycling shoes, etc...), supported vs. unsupported, route taken, and where you are starting in Michigan (Michigan is a big state - especially considering the upper penninsula) The best answer I can give is that I did it on a road bike in 2008 in 8.5 days unsupported. I averaged about 90 miles a day. I began in SW Michigan and finished in NW NJ. It can be done much quicker (RAAM riders cover the distance in less than 4 days!) or it can be done much slower depending on the factors mentioned above.
Starting at the middle of the state of New Jersey, it would take approximately 260 to 270 hours of non-stop walking to get to Michigan. During this time, you would have to cover a distance of at least 780 miles.
