While there are a variety of different recipes for making potato salad, the majority use red-skinned potatoes because they are readily available and simple to cook. For potato salad, you are looking for a tender (but not crumbly) potato.

Depending on your recipe, you will want to boil the five (5) pounds of potatoes between 13 and 17 minutes, checking for tenderness along the way. You can check for tenderness by pressing a spoon (or other hard implement) against one of the potatoes firmly. When there is about 3mm (1/4 inch) of give (that does NOT come back), the potatoes are ready.

You may cook longer if you like a somewhat softer potato in your salad or shorter if you like the salad firmer.

hate it but it does depend on the potatoe and size. some people boil them whole and keep the skins on and in the salad, 20 min. med tater. cubed about sugar square size or a little bigger anywhere from 5-10 min. test with fork any way, if it comes back out easily after youve poked them they're done. :)

How long do you boil potatoes?

When I make sweet potato pie I bake the potatoes for 45 to 55 minutes. Or until soft on the inside. Soft enough to pierce with a fork. Or you can boil them for 15 to 20 minutes. Just do as you do with regular potatoes. Boil until you can pierce with a fork and it's soft enough to fall apart. But not too soft to be really mushy.

How long does it take to cook boiled potatoes?

Approximately 10 to 25 minutes at a high boil. The time required to boil potatoes depends on whether and how the potatoes are cut up. Smaller pieces, such as cubes, expose more surface area to the boiling water and so cook more quickly than larger pieces. Whole potatoes will take the longest time to boil until done. ........................... Boil them long enough that a fork will enter them without much effort.

Does potato salad spoil?

Potato salad will never be as good as when it was first made. Use it within a day or two. Depending on what you put in your potato salad will depend on how long your salad will last. If you put eggs in your salad then you have 3 days to use it up in. If you omit the eggs then you have about 5 days as long as the salad doesn't sit out and get warm since it has mayonnaise in it.

How do you make potato flour?

To make potato flour, peel the potatoes and boil them. Then mash them, and spread them out on a dehydrator. Once dehydrated just run through a blender or flour/coffee mill, and it should work. Just remember you are going use a lot of potatoes and get LITTLE flour. Buy the biggest bag of potatoes you can because it's cheaper that way, and spend a a couple days making the flour. They need a long time to dehydrate.

How long do you boil potatoes if you plan on making mashed potatoes?

Mashed Potatoes!!About 20 minutes, depending on the size of your potatoes. Start off by putting the potatoes on in cold water (root vegetables should always start in cold water, other vegetables in boiling water). The way to test their doneness is to insert a sharp knife into a few of your potatoes and lift them up out of the water. If they fall off the knife, they're done.
